The 7-Day Bass Challenge That Gets Real Results (Especially If You're Over 50)

Hey there, James here from eBassGuitar.

If you're picking up the bass at 50 or beyond (or even just getting back into it after a bit of a break), I want to share one of the most effective tools I’ve seen for building confidence, sounding more musical, and just feeling better about your playing...

👉 It’s called the Approach Note — and once you know how to use it properly, it’ll change how you build bass lines forever.

So I put together a 7-Day Challenge to help you install this concept into your playing, one step at a time.

Why This Challenge Works So Well

After working with thousands of students in the eBassGuitar community, I’ve seen a pattern:

Most 50+ bass players love having a simple structure to follow…

They want to sound good right away, and they want to understand why things work — not just copy tabs.

This challenge delivers on all three.

Each day builds on the last, starting with the simplest form of approach notes — then slowly layering on new techniques like chromatics, scale-based ideas, and more rhythmic freedom.

The result?

You get a system that actually sticks — and starts to show up in your real-world playing.

Here’s What You’ll Learn in 7 Days:

Day 1-2:

  • Chromatic approach notes (from below and above)
  • How to target chord changes for instant “pro” sound

Day 3-4:

  • Whole step approaches
  • Mixing upper and lower notes
  • Double-note chromatic fills (they sound awesome)

Day 5-7:

  • Using the major scale to create melodic lines
  • Two- and three-note approaches that make bass lines “sing”
  • A mini creative challenge to blend everything together

And the best bit?

You only need about 10 minutes a day to get results.

To make this easy, I’ve put together a FREE PDF with all 7 exercises written out in notation and tab.

Whether you're a complete beginner, or just want to give your playing a reset with a fresh concept... this challenge will give you a big confidence boost.

Ready to Give It a Go?

Start today with Day 1, and stick with it for a week.

By Day 7, you’ll be surprised at how much more confident and melodic your bass lines sound — and more importantly, how much fun you’re having!

Let me know how you get on in the comments or over on the eBassGuitar YouTube channel.

You’ve got this — now go make some noise.

Catch you soon,
James
