Hey, James here!
If you're a bass player looking to improve your skills, there is one killer bass drill that you need to try. This drill is designed to help players of any level improve their technique, accuracy, and speed.
Over the last few months, I've been working on a brand new book with my friend Andy. This book is all about bass drills and warm-ups which is a super popular subject. So I thought of sharing a killer bass drill, which is used extensively in this book, that can help you with improving your fretboard knowledge, technique, and overall help you become a better musician.
The drill involves a continuous exercise, playing a simple ascending and descending pattern of the simple major scale, and putting it through a sequence called the "circle of fifths". Once you've got the exercise down in its basic form, you can layer up minor scales, dominant scales, diminished scales, triads, and arpeggios, or try it slowly or fast. The possibilities are endless! What I love for my students to do with this exercise is make them change the location of the different root notes on the fly to really explore their confidence moving around the fretboard. One of the great things about this drill is that it can be adapted to fit any skill level.
Not only is this drill a great way to improve your playing, but it's also a fun way to challenge yourself and push your limits. So, grab your bass and give this one killer bass drill a try – you won't be disappointed!
