Hey, James here!
One of the most common questions we receive from our students at eBassGuitar is, "How can I improve my rhythm and timing?" To answer this, I've asked Toby to share the process he uses to help his students enhance their timing.
Playing with a Metronome
Today, we're focusing on playing with a metronome. Don’t worry—it's not as scary as it sounds. In fact, we’ll explore how you can make working with a metronome enjoyable by playing fun rhythm games. This approach will significantly improve your internal timing and rhythm.
Step-by-Step Guide
Choose Your Groove: Start by picking any bass groove that you like. This could be a song you're working on or something you've made up. The key is to choose a bass line that you know well.
Familiarize Yourself: Make sure you are comfortable with the chosen bass line, whether it’s simple or advanced. The important part is knowing it well enough to focus on the rhythm.
Practice with the Metronome: Begin practicing the bass line with a metronome. Start slowly to ensure accuracy and gradually increase the tempo as you become more comfortable.
By incorporating these steps into your practice routine, you'll find that your internal timing and rhythm will improve massively.
