The Heart of the Sound — Amps & Cabinets
For most of my live shows, I run an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 through two SL112 cabinets.
It’s the perfect combination of power and clarity — the bottom cab shakes the floor, and the top cab cuts through with definition and punch.
If you’re working with a sound engineer, remember: communication is everything. Your onstage volume can make or break the front-of-house mix, so always check in and find that sweet balance.
Pedalboard & Signal Chain
On the front end of my rig, I use a Shure GLDX16 wireless system — small, reliable, and USB-C rechargeable.
From there, the signal runs through an HX Stomp for light compression and preamp shaping, followed by a few favourites:
- Boss OC-2 Octaver – still the king of synthy low-end.
- Aguilar Filter Twin – for those old-school funky moments.
- SansAmp Bass Driver DI – the unsung hero for tweaking tone on in-ears.
That last pedal is vital — a touch of drive or midrange boost can turn an average monitor mix into a great one.
Monitoring Made Easy
This entire show runs on in-ear monitors, and I use ACS Emotion custom IEMs.
They combine armature and dynamic drivers, giving a deep, rich bass response.
What makes the setup special is full iPad control of my monitor mix — I can adjust every mic and track on stage without leaving my spot.
It’s a total game-changer for clarity and consistency night after night.
The Basses
For the bulk of the set, I rely on my Sadowsky 5-string PJ, with a precision pickup for thump and a jazz pickup for punch.
When things call for smooth, singing lines, I switch to my Overwater fretless — both fitted with Sadowsky preamps so they feel identical under the fingers.
