Hey, James here…
Back in 2000 I taught my very first bass student.
It was a daunting moment because I wondered… What on earth am I going to teach him?
His name was Steve.
He could already play pretty well.
However his fretting hand was letting him down…
I could see there was too much movement which was just slowing him.
I was 19 years and had been at Music College for about a year or so.
It felt like I was just a few steps ahead… but I knew enough to help him.
So I decided to show him something I was working on with my teacher… to fix exactly the same issue.
It was called the Spider Walk.
Little did I know 20 years later I would have seen hundreds of students in person and now tens of thousands of students online with exactly the same issues.
This one drill has been the backbone of how I’ve helped countless students overcome this technical challenge and build their speed and accuracy so they can play the bass lines an songs they love
What more… for some students it doesn’t always work AND in this lesson I’m going to tell you exactly why and what you need to do to fix it.
Keep groovin’ hard,
James
