Hey, James here…
So there’s one thing that gives the bass ‘the edge’ over so many other instruments…
Now I’m not talking about the lead guitarist from U2 😉
I’m talking about the thing which makes it considerably easier to learn compared to so many other instruments.
The reality is it is our bass playing ‘advantage’ and we need to use it at every opportunity.
It’s that bass guitar is a shape or a pattern orientated instrument.
Once you get to start to know the bass guitar fretboard, even just a little, you’ll see these patterns light up on the neck like ‘heat maps’.
These distinctive shapes are foundation to many of the greatest bass lines in music history.
Here’s the thing… it doesn’t matter if you’ve only been playing a month or two… or your James Jamerson, Marcus Miller or Victor Wotten… we all use the same basic shapes and patterns.
In today’s lesson I’m going to show 5 core shapes which are literally responsible for thousands of world-class bass lines.
Get these under your hands and you're well on the way to playing some of the seminal songs on the planet.
Keep groovin’ hard,
James
