Here at eBassGuitar, we love seeing students rediscover their passion for bass playing and achieve incredible growth. Today, we’re excited to share the inspiring story of Magnus Lind, a 61-year-old from Sweden, a Bass Lab PLUS member who returned to bass playing after nearly four decades—and hasn’t looked back since!

"After a break of almost 40 years, I now live for this and just want to keep learning at my own pace."

Outstanding, isn't he?
What’s your name, where are you from, and how long have you been playing the bass guitar?
Magnus: My name is Magnus Lind, but most people call me Magge. I’m 61 years old and from Sweden. I first started playing bass in my youth for a few years, even building my own bass guitar at the time. But I quit entirely in 1984 and didn’t touch a bass again until 2022, after nearly 40 years away.
Can you tell us about your musical background and what inspired you to pick up the bass guitar?
Magnus: My musical background is limited—I’m self-taught, and in my teens, I played in a few bands, mostly sticking to root notes. I quit in the mid-80s and didn’t think about bass again until I started seeing James’s posts on Facebook. Those posts planted a seed, and in 2022, I bought my first bass in decades. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to learn more, and eBassGuitar has been perfect for my self-paced journey.
When and what made you join The Bass Lab PLUS?
Magnus: I joined Bass Lab PLUS in 2023 after following James on Facebook. His teaching style clicked with me—it’s clear, educational, and easy to understand. Even though I sometimes struggle with the language, the lessons are accessible and engaging.
"The technique course has opened many doors for me—it’s been a game changer in building a solid foundation."
Which specific lessons or courses in Bass Lab PLUS have you found most beneficial?
Magnus: For me, the program feels like a smorgasbord where I can pick and choose what I need. But if I had to highlight one course, the Technique Course has been a game changer. It’s opened so many doors and helped me build a solid foundation.
Can you describe your practice routine and how it has evolved since joining Bass Lab PLUS?
Magnus: My daily routine starts with at least 15-20 minutes of technique training, which has done wonders for my playing. I also love participating in the monthly challenges—they’re fun, inspiring, and the community atmosphere is fantastic.
"My technique on both fretting and picking hands has improved significantly thanks to the right tools from eBassGuitar."
What specific areas of your bass playing have improved the most?
Magnus: My technique has improved dramatically, especially with the "one finger per fret technique" I’ve learned from eBassGuitar. Both my fretting and picking hand techniques have become much more precise.
What tips or advice would you like to share with fellow bass learners out there?
Magnus: Focus on building good, solid technique—it’s the foundation that allows you to play whatever you want with confidence and ease.
What would you say to anyone thinking of joining the Bass Lab PLUS?
Magnus: I hesitated for months before joining, and I regret waiting so long. My advice? Don’t overthink it—just join. You’ll start a journey that you’ll never regret!
Magnus’s story is proof that it’s never too late to rediscover your passion for music. With the right tools, guidance, and community support, you can achieve incredible progress, no matter how long it’s been since you last picked up the bass.
