Soundchecks are like a warm-up before a concert. It's when the musicians make sure everything sounds good—like tuning their instruments and adjusting the volume. The sound engineer, who's like the conductor, helps balance all the sounds so that each instrument and voice can be heard just right. It's like a practice session to get everything ready before the real show begins, making sure the music will sound awesome for the audience.
Over the last 20 years or so, I have probably done hundreds, if not thousands of soundchecks. In those soundchecks, typically in my band Metropolis, we would start off having a jam just over a single chord, just so we can get comfortable with the room and start helping the sound guys get the mix together.
Now, these jams were often one of the most fun parts of the cake because it was our chance to let loose and explore.
So today I want to show you five everyday bass guitar patterns that I use when I'm jamming and creating bass lines.
