Over my years playing the bass guitar and running my YouTube channel, I've been asked a lot about jazz bass soloing. If you've been following my channel for a while, you know I'm not some big-shot jazz soloist, but I do know enough to get by. When I see a set of chord changes, I know what to do.
But it wasn't always like this. Jazz bass soloing felt impossible for a long time, like some kind of crazy voodoo magic. Then I learned a secret, and everything started to make sense. I'm here to share that secret with you.
So what's the trick to jazz bass soloing? It's all about using certain notes in the right places and hitting important notes on the strong beats. What does that mean? It means focusing on certain notes when you play on the first or third beat of each measure.
